The Power of Human Touch

There seems to have been an absolute BOOM in clients booking in for massage treatments:- Back, neck & Shoulders, full body, Indian Head and even Luxury Pedicures 💆‍♀️

And I wanted to explain to you a wee bit of science behind it (don't worry, its not the boring kind! 😉)

You see its human nature to need physical touch, it creates a pathway for the release of Oxytocin, Serotonin and Dopamine. (otherwise known as the happy hormones!) These hormones promote feelings of positivity and happiness! 💫

*** '“From birth we have an inherent desire and need for human connection. Physical touch develops critical neural pathways in the brain and it can slow down your heart rate, lower your blood pressure, suppress the release of stress hormones, strengthen your immune system and increase levels of oxytocin, which is linked to feelings of love, bonding and wellbeing,” Clinical psychologist, Dr. Aria Campbell Danesh.""

This is why a hug from a friend or family member, or a pat on the back as a job well done feels so good! Its releasing these happy hormones! 💜

And for over a year, not only have we been forbidden from hugging friends and family, we have been distanced from those we love and have been placed in a high stress situation. Which would create the need for these happy hormones even more! 😫

So when you look at the 'Touch of Massage Therapy' This takes this even further!! Not only does it provide a pathway for these 'happy hormones' It is also PROVEN to reduce the levels of Cortisol (or the stress hormone!!!) in the body!! 🤯

Now, this hormone is key if fight or flight situations - however, long term exposure to this hormone can dramatically INCREASE your risk of serious health conditions, including: cardiovascular disease. osteoporosis. insulin resistance and diabetes!! Which we obviously DO NOT want! 🙈

Now, while massage has previously been seen as a relaxing 'treat' or occasional pamper, it is now starting to be seen as a valuable element in your health & self care, because it has been shown not only to decrease pain and tightness in muscles, but also to help relieve symptoms of anxiety, stress, and sleeping disorders. and helps with the feeling of social exclusion - which means it can help with physical & mental wellbeing!! 💜

This is why massage is now being taught in school, and being used in cancer units and palliative care departments!!

The fact that these hormones get passed so easily through skin to skin contact is why it is important to end each massage with a flow of energy release! Breathing in all negative energies and shaking them out through the hands! 💫 It protects us and you!! 💜

If you want to book yourself a massage after this, I have just the treat for you! 😉
