Those small bumps that give you nothing but grief? Those little balls of nothingness that feels like a tennis ball is wedged between your shoulder blades - knots, we've all heard of them or worse, dealt with them. But what are they?
Contrary to their name, knots aren't actually muscles tied in knots - they are small hard lumps that are caused by stressed muscle fibres to stick together instead of moving freely like they should! This causes a restriction of blood flow and metabolic waste starts to build up. This new hard feeling is referred to as a muscle 'knot'. Knots can also cause other issues that aren't directly related - ie. knots in your neck can cause tension headaches!
So know we know what Knots are, what causes them?
Well there are a number of different factors which can result in knots:
Poor posture or repetitive actions
Stress
Dehydration/poor circulation
Lack of sleep!
Repetitive strain injury
Trauma tear
The best and most effective treatment for knots (apart from preventive measures) is soft tissue massage! - Thats where we've got you covered!
